Email

1. Step 1

   Open the envelope icon. That is your mail.

   Tap the icon that looks like a paper envelope, usually on the home screen. If the screen is at all unfamiliar, look for the words “Mail” or “Gmail” under the icon.

2. Step 2

   Tap the pencil or “write” to start a message.

   A new blank screen opens. The “To” line is where you pick the person. The “Subject” line is a short note that lets the reader know what the email is about.

3. Step 3

   Pick the person, type a short subject, type the message, tap send.

   Keep the subject short — one or two words is plenty, like “Tuesday lunch” or “the recipe”. The body is the letter. Send is the paper-airplane icon at the top.

4. Step 4

   Watch who the message is really from.

   If a message says it’s from your bank but the address is random letters or a foreign domain, that is junk. Real companies write to you from their own address.

5. Step 5

   If anything feels off, delete it.

   Real banks, the post office, the IRS — none of them ask you to tap a link and type your password. When in doubt, delete the message and call the company on the number on the back of your card.
